One portrait sketch (10 to 20 minute from photo reference or tv freeze frame as start) a day for a year. Here is the daily one!

Home

The living room/studio wall is just behind me when I sit at drawing table, while the bottle - once a 46 cm height milk bottle, now a 46 cm height hold up-book bottle - is on my left.
Shoes are scattered on bedroom floor.
Not too much order on my home these days!

Later in the afternoon the Daily Portrait Sketch.

daily portrait sketch

I'm never very happy with faces I draw, so I thought I need a training time.
One portrait sketch (10 to 20 minute from photo reference or tv freeze frame as start) a day for a year.
Maybe I'm crazy.....anyway here the first and the second are!

Bologna

Attracted by characters shape, I made the sketch to test a fountain pen Miguel Herrantz advised me, -thanks Miguel, pens work wonderfully!- but I didn't know I was using no waterproof ink; I realized that just when I washed colour!
All the same, I like the 'dirty' effect I got.

I made this few days after the party by reference photos on my moleskine.

Bologna, via Goito 3/c

On March 22nd, SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) at the end of Bologna Symposium had a dinner dance party at Libreria Trame Bookshop, where I had my exhibition (fantastic place and great hospitality!).

Lots of illustrators, writers, agents, publishers were there.

It was a funny night with good food, good wine, good music from actual, old, wonderful, records played by Dj Checco (the man on the left) with his vintage record players . His musical knoledge is terrific!

Round Red was the party people adhesive for identification.

At a child's birthday party in Bologna

Children's birthday party can be boring when:
-you don't know other parents.
-they are much younger than you.
-mom are more than dad.
-you are not a great talker.
If there is each of the four condition, well, it's great if you have your sketchbook with you!

Bologna

March 10th, 2010. After few warm days suddenly snow falled again. 'Where's springtime gone?' I guess this was everybody's thought.

I like to compare this sketch with the one I made same day last year (click here) in a very hot day! So hot that I had to dress just a t-shirt.
What weather will be next year?

Bologna

After a long, cold, snowy winter al last a pleasant warm day, good to spend time sketching outside.
It was February 25. Two weeks later should have snow again!!I made this on the North-East area of Bologna and maybe the right brown building is Agrarian University of Bologna, but I'm not really sure.

Bologna, via Saragozza. The day after 2010 regional election.

Italian flag colours have always been used in Mr Berlusconi party symbol. The flag I saw in front of a school windows had very faded colours, just as the common sense seem to be in a country where people vote for arrogance, censorship, impoverishment, ruin.
